Wedding Cake at Waddesdon is a gorgeous 12-meter structure at Waddesdon that will take your breath away. I had the great opportunity of being the official videographer at the opening event of the Wedding Cake. It was mesmerising! The cotton candy colour palette, twisting columns and wedding cake style of this sculpture, as its name says, all add to its fascinating splendour.

Waddesdon Manor, where the Waddesdon Wedding Cake is located, is a marvel itself. It was built in the 19th century by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. This lovely French Chateau has been host to royalty, including Queen Victoria. The Wedding Cake pays homage to the fairy-tale feel of this venue, and captures you with its abundance of details.

Joana Vasconcelos (@joanavasconcelosatelier), the Portuguese artist behind this master piece, received her inspiration from the ceramic traditions of Lisbon, where she lives. As a result, the sculpture boast of over 150 different types of ceramic tiles. This creates a mirroring effect of icing on a cake. In total, over 26 000 tiles were used for this masterpiece! Vasconcelos also says that this “Temple of Love” gives a nod to the Rothschild tradition of hospitality.  

Wedding Cake at Waddesdon a Small Tour

The first thing that catches your eye about the Waddesdon Wedding Cake is the way it looms over the Dairy Gardens at Waddesdon (@waddesdonevents). The icing-like ornaments of fish, mermaids, putti and cuspids will captivate you. You’ll also love the little statues of St Anthony all around the circumference. Couples can have their wedding in this wedding cake with the beautiful magic all around.

Water spurts from the fish, and the sound of the trickling water, along with the lighting scheme, offers a delightful sensory experience. To step into the sculpture, you pass through lovely candles and ceramic mermaids and get straight into the bar area. While marvelling at the wonder, you are immediately enraptured by the domed circular wedding chapel. There you climb stairs to get the cakes to higher tiers. 

It is no surprise that this sculpture took five years to build and that the artist describes it as her biggest challenge in a career of over 30 years. You will enjoy the results, and I had a lovely time exploring it. This venue will have such a charming impact on wedding couples and their guests, and I look forward to capturing beautiful weddings at Waddesdon.

The Opening Event of the Wedding Cake at Waddesdon

It was a great pleasure to be invited to the opening event of the Wedding Cake at Waddesdon as the official videographer and guest. It was such an honour to work with some of the best vendors in the wedding industry in the UK. Camilla Joy (@camillajoyphotography) was the official photographer at this event, and you can see her photographs of the launch on Waddesdon Events’ website and social media (@waddesdonevents).

Host Hospitality (@host_hospitality) did a wonderful job catering for the event. Their menu for the Wedding Cake at Waddesdon opening event was a top-level gastronomic experience. The food choices included delicious seafood beautifully displayed on the top of a shell-shaped ice sculpture. The desserts were divine, and there was even a wedding cake made by Forever Cake Creations (@forevercakecreations) that looked exactly like the Wedding Cake at Waddesdon.

Amie Bone (@amieboneflowers) is an event designer and a wonderful floral artist. The flowers at this event ignited the ambience of love making the experience unforgettable. I love the choice of elegant and striking arrangements spotting greens, purples, orange and pink.

Options Hire (@optionsgreathire) is behind the beautiful furniture in matching colours at the event. You’ll love the sofas, garden umbrellas, armchair sets, coffee tables and more.

Luminaire Events (@luminaire_events) is responsible for the bespoke and stunning lighting at this event. It added to the wonderful atmosphere at the Wedding Cake at Waddesdon.
